Description
From the series ‘Australian Wildlife Adventures’. A cheeky cockatoo changes the tracks on the Puffing Billy line. #aussiewildlifeadventures
This is a rescue Cockatoo, saved by Locky’s Legacy Wildlife Shelter
In this photographic artwork, I seek to capture the playfulness and curiosity of a cockatoo as it interacts with the lever that controls the direction of the Puffing Billy Steam Train tracks. The historical setting of the steam train adds a layer of nostalgia to the image, while the mischievous behavior of the cockatoo brings a sense of whimsy and humor.
Through this artwork, I hope to convey the magic and joy of the natural world, and to invite viewers to look more closely at the animals that share our planet. The combination of the cockatoo’s personality and the nostalgic setting creates a unique and compelling image that speaks to the enduring connections between animals and humanity and to the enduring power of art to tell their stories.
Lyndel Chalmers is the owner of Locky’s Legacy, a property located approximately 10km north of Pakenham.
The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and it is Lyndel’s intent to continue to utilise the property for conservation purposes. The sanctuary is also a registered wildlife shelter with plans to open an eco-friendly bed and breakfast in the future.
Locky’s Legacy covers approximately 5.9 hectares of hilly, native bushland with a dam and a creek running through the end of the property, providing a vital water source for wildlife. The sanctuary is dominated by eucalypt woodlands and native undergrowth with riparian vegetation along the creek bank.
Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), superb lyrebirds (Menura novahollandiae), kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), bare nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and a variety of water birds, wrens, finches and robins.
