Description

From the series ‘Australian Wildlife Adventures’. A Young Wombat enjoys its travels on Puffing Billy and takes a Photo with their camera . #aussiewildlifeadventures

Bebe is a rescue wombat, saved by Locky’s Legacy Wildlife Shelter, and her story adds an extra layer of meaning to this artwork. By depicting her as an adventurous and curious photographer, I hope to convey the intelligence and individuality of this species, as well as the importance of conservation efforts.

Through this photographic artwork, I aim to celebrate the beauty and spirit of the natural world, and to encourage viewers to look more closely at the creatures that share our planet. This image of Bebe the wombat taking photos and riding on the back of the Puffing Billy Steam Train is a testament to the enduring connections between animals and humanity and to the enduring power of art to tell their stories.

Lyndel Chalmers is the owner of Locky’s Legacy, a property located approximately 10km north of Pakenham.

The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and it is Lyndel’s intent to continue to utilise the property for conservation purposes. The sanctuary is also a registered wildlife shelter with plans to open an eco-friendly bed and breakfast in the future.

Locky’s Legacy covers approximately 5.9 hectares of hilly, native bushland with a dam and a creek running through the end of the property, providing a vital water source for wildlife. The sanctuary is dominated by eucalypt woodlands and native undergrowth with riparian vegetation along the creek bank.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), superb lyrebirds (Menura novahollandiae), kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), bare nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and a variety of water birds, wrens, finches and robins.

Bebe also features in another artwork that forms part of the Homeless Wildlife Series – Homeless Wombat
